MILL CORNER LONGHAUS
est. 2025
Nestled in the foothills of Sheffield with commanding views of Mount Roland and the Badgers, Mill Corner Longhaus represents the pinnacle of sustainable, high-performance building. This project was driven by a clear brief: to create a Certified Passivhaus that is exceptionally energy-efficient, accessible, and designed to serve its owners well into the future.

Sustainable Design & High Performance
The home is strategically sited to maximise solar gain, utilising ground-rock aggregate concrete floors to act as a thermal heat bank, while a comprehensive solar system with battery storage and on-site water tanks ensure long-term resilience.
Key Passivhaus elements include:
- Continuous Insulation: 150mm reinforced concrete slab with XPS underslab and edge insulation, and a "hot roof" system featuring R6 insulation.
- Air Quality: A Zehnder mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery provides fresh, filtered air while maintaining an even, comfortable temperature year-round.
- Glazing: Thermally broken triple-glazed alu-clad timber windows from Ecosky perfectly frame the surrounding farmland while preventing heat loss.
- Airtight: The building envelope is a masterclass in airtight construction, achieving a remarkable 0.18 air changes per hour on the final blower door test.
- No Thermal Bridges:

Materiality & External Form
The exterior features a sophisticated, low-maintenance palette. Colorbond Custom Orb in Monument provides a sleek, corrugated skin, punctuated by custom powder-coated window shrouds in a contrasting sand-tone finish. Blackbutt timber cladding and screens add organic texture, softening the transition from the garage to the main residence via a covered walkway.

Interior
Inside, the Tasmanian Oak raked ceilings create a sense of volume and warmth in the open-plan living area.
To ensure the home is future-proof, we integrated accessible features throughout, including ramp access, zero thresholds and wider hallways and doorways.

This kitchen is a masterclass in modern Australian design, balancing sleek, dark tones with the organic warmth of Tasmanian Oak. It’s designed to be the functional heart of the "Longhaus," offering a seamless blend of high-end technology and artisanal craftsmanship. Clad in Porta Contours ‘Riverine’ and topped with Polytec Xenolith benchtops in Marmo Di Torre, the three-metre long kitchen island is the centre piece of the home.

Multi-Generational Living
Expanding the home's versatility is a 60m² self-contained accommodation wing. Designed to the same rigorous Passivhaus standards, this space is ideal for multi-generational living or providing a premium "Passivhaus experience" for BnB guests.
